"Tales from the Vault: The Dora Pinder Murder" - TRAILER
Miami Dade College’s Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives presents the premiere of their new video series, Tales from the Vault, where long-hidden stories from within their archival news collections are uncovered, on Thursday, August 15 at 6:30pm at MDC’s North Campus Room 2147. Following the screening, special guest speaker HistoryMiami Museum Resident Historian Dr. Paul George dives into the history of bolita gambling in South Florida.
The series’ first episode, The Dora Pinder Murder, pieced together original newsfilm footage, news scripts, and local newspaper coverage to tell the story of what happened in August 1952 after Dora Pinder, the wife of Miami’s notorious bolita gambling baron Howard Pinder, was murdered in their home.
This event is co-sponsored by HistoryMiami Museum and is presented with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.

Then, the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926 wrecked much of the metropol...

Three WTVJ-4 news stories from 1957 capture the consumer-centered 1950s. 1. A "Pioneer's Dinner" at Burdines on Flagler Street salutes Miami long-timers. This story gives us a good look at the store's restaurant, the Hibiscus Tea Room. 2. Shoopers at a Miami -area Sear's store are enthralled by a "Searsnik" balloon evidently inspired by Sputnik, the Soviet satellite launched that year. 3. The F...

Here's Another Angle On The Wolfson Archives
Ugly AG and poor quality control blaming it on a mechanics training car (like all the others that came off the production line). Who would give a “training car” to someone who is going to review an automobile??!
Here after the Forrest Frank album
This was a strong and immensely funny lady. I wish we had more clips of her.
At 18:09 that little possum has been through hell!!
It was junk like this omega, that brought buyers over to Honda and Toyota!
With a great view of the bay and original Mid Century architecture, the Herald Building could have been converted into a awesome library for Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade College, or FIU. The squandering of such a fantastic opportunity borders on the obscene. Should never have been torn down.
0:36 they crashed into the boat and almost sent poor Martine Beswick into the water
Drugs won the war....😅😅😅😅😅
💯 FACTS
Will it be uploaded to youtube at some point? Thanx.
The program will eventually get uploaded here.
Hurricane Betsy in 1965
I was an Eastern Airlines Steward (flight attendant) during the 70's. Frank Lorenzo and Frank Borman destroyed a great Company!! PERIOD
I worked at the Hotel 🏨 late 90s early 2000s I loved that mall & some of my best memories are in the Omni Mall! Good Ole Memories ❤
The birth of 911
What year is this?
I remember in the 1980's, as a child, attending those yearly employee parties.
Amazing! ❤❤❤❤ thank you
🎉I have one and love it 🤩

I worked there AND met Muhammed Ali there! 1980-81
my 2000 F250 4 door long bed 4X4 gets 17 MPG all day. 7.3
About 1965 I saw a car very similar to this in a barn in Michigan, I have often wondered what happened to it.
I really miss her and her restaurant. Awesome lady & incredible food! Three generations of my family, including myself, were regulars there from the 1950s through her closure in the 1980s. A lot of great restaurants and places are all gone in NMB and the surround area.
Hyper and disjointed, needs work.
What a sexy sounding "tag line" sung by the beautiful (and sadly late) Astrud Gilberto .... not to mention the sexy in-flight shots of the EAL Boeing 727-100. Thanks for sharing!
The GM front wheel drive “X” bodies. Making import buyers for life.

Now for some REAL truth. The REAL Bob was a man named Bob Brownlee. He worked for Miami Dade Public Safety office back then. The Sheriff's Department. It was early 70's. He had a manager named Bob Betelli. I know because I worked for the original. Brownlee who left the Barricade business as far as I know when he sold the original "Bob's Barricades" to James A Ryder of Ryder Trucks. I met James A Ryder at a party we had at the shop in Opa Locka, a suburb of Miami. Don't know what happened after I left the company. But the original Bob was real. I used to deliver sump pumps and barricades to job sites in a 3/4 ton truck. Had my own hard hat they gave me so I could drop things at job sites.
Make "Florida" Great Again !! Sing it , Again Captain "Ron" DeSantis Lol...
GREAT CHANNEL!!!
My first TV theme ....good times...;)
what year is this from ? Gotta be mid-50's
I believe its from the mid 60s
The date is listed only as "1960s" in our catalog.
It has to be at least late 63. The announcer at some point mentioned "Cape Kennedy", LBJ changed the name from Cape Canaveral that year. Mid 60's is about right.
I never knew Florida was a heavy manufacturing base. It's a shame the Midtown/Wynwood section of Miami didn't preserve it's industrial roots and invest in light manufacturing jobs instead of frivolous crap like Target.
I remember hearing stories about these storms. I forgot what storms we stayed at Key Largo Elementary School for and some we stayed in Florida City
Stayed in The Keys for Georges in 1998 & Wilma in 2005. No major affects (in the lower keys) when cat 5 Andrew struck the mainland in 1992.
These were no doubt happy times.
This is classic tv news in Miami in the 1970s.
Now the ridership is surpassed that I’m surprised they didn’t expand it to this very day
Because they're too corrupt.
My father had a newone 1 980 in Costa Rica: bad quality.😢
EXCELLENT!!
If anyone worked the festival and happened to save one of the sweatshirts, I'll pay a lot for an original. Please let me know.
These s how it was when I was a child ,,people were civilized and everyone respectful

Where was their old studio located? I know the current WTVJ studio is in Broward County next to I-75 in Miramar.
Calle Ocho Street block party started in March of 1978 with over 100,000 people in attendance.
Now in Miami you have to speak both in English and in Spanish!

RIP Governor Graham.
This was before the crack era in South Florida when there was unity in the Black community, Black people stuck together.
